Style Old And New: A Day In Milan

When getting off the train from Torino to Milan, I was greeted by a truly magnificent train station. The area that our train arrived in was a large dome-like area made of steel and glass. Walking the length of our train we came to the main area of the station. There were flashy adds for clothing and airfare and a Guess store prompted the entrance to a shopping area. We walked through beautiful old train station buildings and down to their metro station into a jam-packed metro to Milan's famous Duomo.

As soon as I hopped off the train, and walked up the steps towards the Duomo, I could see the intricate Marble lacework and spires adorned with various saints. It was truly a sight to behold. Stepping inside, mom and I paid a fee to be able to take pictures inside this gargantuan church. Frankly, the memory card in my camera ran out of space in the entry hall. ( I used dad's iPhone after that.) After that we went deeper into the church, admiring stained glass windows depicting a great many Bible stories and tombs set into the marble wall. As we walked farther and farther into the church, the tombs got increasingly intricate, adorned with huge angel statues and the crests of the popes and cardinals buried there. Well, not exactly buried. The Popes in the church were in glass cases, their shriveled hands grasping their staff and they had a silver death mask covering their face. You could see gross white hair peeking out of it. Eew.

Walking out of the church, we faced the Galleria Vitttorio Emmanuele II, famous for it's high-end clothing shops. All the big brands were there- name a fashion label and they had it. In this location and all over Milan really I felt very shabby in my plain jeans and converse. Everyone was so stylish (excluding the tourists, of course). We spun our heels on the bull then headed out of the Galleria.

We roamed the streets of Milan, looking at the contributions to Milan's Design Week until we came to a cafe in front of a castle where we ate, then went back towards the main areas of Milan. We were walking towards a large mall near the left side of the church. The mall was extremely extensive and filled with big names in clothing makeup and perfume. There was a whole section of the mall dedicated to chocolate. The chocolate was in every shape and form including life-sized shoes, a mug you could accualy use, tiny chocolates by the kilo and every manner of chocolate bar. This floor also had fancy salts, tiny candies, a conveyer belt sushi place(love those), and two whole aisles of tea(many in very cute tins and boxes). There was also a floor for makeup and perfume, a floor for underclothes and baby clothing, a floor for menswear, purses, food, and more.

CHOCOLATE SHOES!?

Macaroons

So many colors!

Mom, seeing people carrying Gap bags, wanted to go to Gap. As we walked around the shopping streets looking for it we saw a group of models posing in bright pants and jackets(I think they were from the Gap). It was cool and really reminded me of what a fashion city Milan is.

Models in Milan! (I want their outfits!)

That was Milan. Hope you enjoyed this post.

Ciao!
