Today Todd braved the city drivers and we made it to the Michelangelo Piazza (free parking!!) overlooking the city. It was a hike down along the Arno River to the Ponte Vecchio and then a stroll into the Piazza Della Signoria (and more history lessons!) I loved seeing the plaque of where the Bonfire of the Vanities had been. We reserved our tickets for the Uffizi and then got some gelato while we waited.
Inside, we were all blown away by the sheer volume of what's here. Each room you walk into seems to hold a Giotto, a Botticelli, or a da Vinci. It's a 3D art history text. I think Hailey could have spent all day looking at Bottocelli's Primavera, but Griffin had other ideas. So out we went and wandered the city - markets, back streets, cathedrals until we were ready to head back to our beds. Whew!
Here, I should give thanks to Rick Steves and his classic book/museum guide "Mona Winks". I still think he's the best out there for lighthearted but fabulous information. Just right...
